Old Delhi – The Real City
Soak in the history, one step at a time
When you enter Old Delhi, you enter a different world altogether. It is a city filled with history and culture from all parts of the country, but most importantly it is filled with purpose. You will find that each person here is always doing something. The chaos and hustle-bustle of the place is the most fascinating part of the experience in Old Delhi. The marketplaces are filled with all kinds of activities, the monuments have a diverse heritage on display, while the people who have carried forward age old traditions keep our culture alive.
The tour starts off with a brief history lesson of Shahjahanabad, famously known as Old Delhi. It was founded by the Mughal emperor Shahjahan in 1639, who as you may know, is the man responsible for the Taj Mahal’s existence. Following this is a walk through the Spice Market, a market that is sure to put all your five senses to use. You will then get the opportunity to see a bird’s eye view of Old Delhi from a rooftop, far above all the madness. A brief rickshaw ride later, you will find yourself in front of the awe-inspiring Red Fort. The mere sight of the Fort spurs your imagination as you begin to hear stories of all that went on inside. We then walk a little way down the road, on Chandni Chowk and reach the grand, golden, Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib (a Sikh Temple).
